Inside transformation of historic Tupelo landmark
SUMMARY: Carnation Village in Tupelo, Mississippi, is being developed to provide affordable housing for seniors aged 55 and older. The project involves renovating a historic building that was previously abandoned after the closure of the Carnation Milk Plant. The development will consist of 33 units, with some leased at market rate and others available for seniors earning between 30 and 60% of the area’s median income. Safety upgrades are being made to create a quiet zone around the development, with plans to open the doors to tenants in August. This project is seen as a positive impact on Mill Village and the city overall.
