Horn Lake man found guilty of attempted first-degree murder in drug deal gone wrong
SUMMARY: Brandon Brinkley, 20, was convicted of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery after a shooting during a drug deal in Olive Branch in June 2023. The jury delivered a unanimous verdict after a three-day trial. Brinkley and Marco Gentry attempted to rob a victim who showed them a firearm; Brinkley shot the victim, leading to an exchange of gunfire before they fled. Both were arrested shortly after. District Attorney Matthew Barton emphasized the community’s support for victims and the prosecution’s diligence. Brinkley’s sentencing is scheduled for October 31. Gentry received a 20-year sentence in a separate case.
