Impacts from tropical system expected this week
SUMMARY: A developing system in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to strengthen into a hurricane, making landfall in south Louisiana by late Wednesday. While today and tomorrow will bring relatively calm weather with some showers, the main impacts are expected Wednesday evening. The current track shows the hurricane approaching near Lafayette, potentially as a Category 1 storm, but preparations should account for higher intensity. Winds could reach 90-100 mph near the coast, with rainfall totals around 2-4 inches on average. Storm surge may reach up to 7 feet in some areas. Stay tuned for updates as the situation evolves.
All eyes are on the developing tropical system in the southern Gulf. We will likely have a name Monday as it slowly begins to organize.

The larger weather system, originating in Texas, has weakened but still poses risks of damaging winds and tornadoes in parts of Mississippi and Louisiana. Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning is expected to bring severe weather with potential flooding and large hail. Alerts are in place for Saturday.
Scattered showers will be around throughout the day Friday. We have a greater threat for severe weather Saturday afternoon to early Sunday morning.
