IMMS to pay $3,000 fine in settlement with USDA
SUMMARY: The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies (IMMS) must pay a $3,000 fine to settle a federal complaint by the national research watchdog group, Stop Animal Exploitation Now. The group alleges that poor water quality, enclosure conditions, and animal handling contributed to the deaths of a bottlenose dolphin and a sea lion while they were under medical care. IMMS claims the animals arrived with serious medical issues. Despite adhering to recommendations, the facility disagreed with the complaint’s issues. The complaint was filed with the US Department of Agriculture.

The Institute of Marine Mammal Studies said it will pay $3,000 in fines after a complaint was filed following the death of two animals.
