IMMS receives 30 cold-stunned Kemp’s ridley sea turtles
SUMMARY: For the fourth consecutive year, the Institute for Marine Mammal Services (IMMS) is providing long-term care to dozens of cold-stunned Kemp’s ridley sea turtles. Thirty turtles were recently received from northeast partners, and the IMMS staff promptly began their initial care, which includes thorough medical examinations and treatments. The turtles will undergo weeks to months of rehabilitation, with the aim of eventually being released back into the Mississippi Sound. This effort is part of a collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to treat sea turtles affected by the cold in Massachusetts waters near Cape Cod.
