‘I’m going to be paying this off for years’; Coast residents warn of jury duty phone call scam
SUMMARY: A Jackson County woman lost nearly $10,000 to a phone scam where she was falsely told she missed jury duty and had to pay fines or face jail. The scammer, posing as a Harrison County Sheriff’s Officer, pressured her to withdraw all her funds and purchase Bitcoin. The call came from a number showing up as the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. The scammer said he had 3 warrants for her arrest because she missed jury duty.
