Illnesses Going Around
SUMMARY: There has been an increase in flu cases, with 18,000 reported in Mississippi last week and a total of 50,000 in the last three weeks. The flu has been most common among people aged 6 to 24. It is expected to continue rising into February, but there are ways to reduce the risk of getting sick, such as washing hands and avoiding large crowds. The flu shot lessens the impact of the illness but doesn’t stop you from getting sick. If you feel sick, you should not go to work or send your kids to daycare or school to prevent spreading the illness. It is recommended to see a doctor if you experience any symptoms of the flu or other respiratory illness.

Ask John: What is the first day of autumn all about?
SUMMARY: In this week‘s “Ask John,” the question addressed is about the first day of autumn. John explains that autumn begins when the sun is directly over the equator, which occurs around September 22nd at 7:44 AM. The earth’s tilt at 23.5 degrees creates seasonal changes; without this tilt, we wouldn’t experience seasons. During autumn, days and nights are approximately equal in length. John emphasizes that understanding the sun’s position and the earth’s orbit helps explain why we have different seasons. Viewers are encouraged to submit questions for future segments.

Jury deliberations begin in Carly Gregg trial
SUMMARY: Jury deliberations have begun in the murder trial of 15-year-old Cari Greg, who is accused of killing her mother and shooting her stepfather. This follows the state resting its case against her. Greg also faces charges of evidence tampering and could receive a life sentence if convicted. Witness testimonies included her claims of experiencing nightmares and queasiness related to the incident. The prosecution argues that her reactions suggest awareness of her actions rather than insanity. Updates on the trial will be provided by 12 News, both online and on air.
