I-55 bridge work expected to cause delays for Jackson drivers
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) will initiate a hydro-demolition project on the I-55 bridges over the Pearl River in Jackson, following the Mississippi State Fair. MDOT Executive Director Brad White noted that the project is necessary due to significant bridge deck deterioration from heavy traffic. Starting October 15, two lanes will close at a time, while leaving two lanes open in each direction. The construction is expected to impact traffic until the end of 2024, with alternate routes suggested for drivers. The project is part of a $24.4 million contract awarded to Key, LLC.
