SUMMARY: A retired couple, Gloria and Gary Moss, fought back after being scammed out of nearly $50,000 through a fraudulent call purporting to be from their bank. The bank initially closed the case, but after five months and with legal assistance from the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s office, they proved the scam involved intercepted calls. With help from forensic analysis, the DA’s office acquired a subpoena that uncovered evidence, leading to an arrest in Texas. Eventually, the bank agreed to refund the Mosses’ money. The incident highlights the increasing vulnerability of individuals to online scams in a digital banking world.

Banking online is leaving all of us vulnerable to scams, and we can’t fight back unless we know how it’s being done. Gloria and Gary Moss were scammed out of nearly $50,000 from a call that many of us get from our banks. The Gwinnett County District Attorney’s office showed the I-Team’s Dana Fowle how they cracked the Moss’s case.
