I-Team: Ex-Hall County solicitor could lose her law license
SUMMARY: Former Hall County solicitor general Stephanie Woodard is at risk of losing her law license after pleading guilty to unprofessional conduct in a case involving the misappropriation of taxpayer funds. Initially charged with 24 felonies, she received a relatively lenient plea deal, resulting in 12 months of probation and restitution of over $2,000. While her crime is classified as a misdemeanor, the State Bar of Georgia is investigating whether it involves moral turpitude, which could lead to disbarment. Former colleagues are debating whether her actions warrant such a severe penalty, as her past responsibilities included overseeing prosecutions.

Federal Reserve cuts key interest rate
SUMMARY: The Federal Reserve approved a second consecutive interest rate cut, lowering the benchmark borrowing rate by a quarter percentage point to between 4.5% and 4.75%. This rate influences consumer borrowing for mortgages, credit cards, and auto loans. Fed Chair Jerome Powell stated that the Fed remains open to further cuts but must balance reducing policy restraint to avoid hindering inflation progress against the risk of weakening economic activity and employment. The goal is to achieve a soft landing for the economy, reducing inflation without triggering a recession.
