Hurricane Milton restrengthens into Cat 5 storm

www.youtube.com – FOX 35 Orlando – 2024-10-08 16:35:11

SUMMARY: Fox 35 Storm Team meteorologist Noah Bergren reports that Hurricane Milton is intensifying, potentially nearing the pressure record of Hurricane Wilma in the Atlantic Basin. The storm is expected to impact areas such as Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota with destructive surge and strong winds. While Milton is forecasted to weaken from a Category 5 to 3, the windfield’s reach will still affect many, producing hurricane-force gusts further inland. Significant wind, flooding, and tornado risks persist across the region, with rainfall expected to exceed 10 inches. Landfall is anticipated around midnight, with Tampa Bay still potentially affected.

SUMMARY: The Supreme Court has temporarily blocked the deportation of Venezuelans at the Bluebonnet Detention Center in Texas under an 18th-century law, directing the Trump administration not to proceed until further notice. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented, with Alito criticizing the court’s quick decision without adequate explanation. The order followed an emergency appeal from the ACLU, which argued that deportations were set to resume. Meanwhile, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer called for the firing of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over reports of unauthorized use of Signal messaging for sharing sensitive military information regarding operations in Yemen.
