Hurricane Helene will be moving into the Gulf today becoming a major Category 3 storm before Florida
SUMMARY: Today and tomorrow are designated impact days due to weather disturbances. Today, a front will bring intermittent rain and storms, particularly affecting southeastern areas. There’s a low severe risk for gusty winds and possibly a brief tornado. Rain is already reported in northern regions. Tomorrow, tropical system Helene will intensify and bring 20-40 mph wind gusts and heavy downpours, raising flooding concerns, especially late evening. A flood watch is in effect for several counties, predicting 2-4 inches of rain, with some areas seeing up to 6 inches. Caution is advised against driving through flooded roads. Conditions will improve Friday.
Helene’s size “will likely cause an extensive area to be affected by the storm’s hazards,” the National Hurricane Center’s update said Tuesday evening.
