Hurricane Helene leads to decrease in income tax revenue | Georgia
SUMMARY: In November, Georgia’s tax revenues increased to nearly $2.38 billion, rising by $52.9 million from the previous year. However, income tax collections fell by 8.3%, decreasing from $1.29 billion to $1.18 billion, partly due to extended tax breaks. Motor fuel taxes saw a significant increase, up $130.8 million after a previous suspension. Corporate tax payments also dropped by 25.7%. With a surplus exceeding $19 billion, Governor Kemp and lawmakers plan a $1 billion rebate for taxpayers, offering $250 to single filers, $375 to heads of household, and $500 for joint filers for the 2024 tax year.

SUMMARY: Jason Krasley, a former Allentown police officer and ex-investigator at the U.S. Center for SafeSport, has been arrested and charged with felony rape and sex trafficking for incidents that allegedly occurred between 2011 and 2015. Krasley, who was dismissed from the SafeSport Center after being caught stealing $5,500 from a drug bust, raises concerns about the center’s vetting process for staff handling sensitive sex-abuse cases. However, after over a decade, concerns grew regarding their care as both ponies and their caretaker, Dr. Venaye Reece, faced health issues and environmental challenges. Ultimately, seven ponies were rehomed with the support of Beaufort County Animal Services. While some fear for their future, foster caregivers emphasized their well-being, ensuring they remain wild in new environments. Reece expressed bittersweet feelings about their departure but hoped their legacy and magic would endure. Support for their ongoing care is available through donations and social media updates.
