Will Helene hit Tallahassee? First major hurricane in 100+ years possible

Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 35 Orlando – 2024-09-26 06:45:54

SUMMARY: Hurricane Helen, currently a Category 1 storm with winds of 90 mph, is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane as it moves over warm waters. It’s predicted to make landfall in the Big Bend region of the Panhandle this evening, potentially reaching Category 3 or 4 status. Tallahassee hasn’t experienced a direct hit from a major hurricane in over a century, and this storm could have significant impacts due to extensive tree growth in the area. While Orlando will miss the storm’s core, the large hurricane will still bring strong tropical storm-force winds across the region.

The cone for Hurricane Helene appeared to narrow on Thursday morning, indicating increased confidence in its projected path toward Tallahassee, Florida.
