Hurricane Helene Cleanup and Recovery in Asheville
SUMMARY: Asheville and surrounding Buncombe County are slowly recovering from the extensive damage caused by heavy rainfall from Hurricane Helen, which brought 10 to 30 inches of rain. Roads are buckled and the infrastructure is slowly being restored, but approximately 100,000 residents remain without water, complicating efforts to resume school and business operations. Currently, water is being hand-delivered, but there is progress, as nearby Nashville is starting to see water restoration. The River Arts District was the hardest hit, indicating that recovery will take considerable time. Meteorologist Jordan Steel reports on the ongoing situation.

Clinton residents voice concerns about development project
SUMMARY: Residents in Clinton are opposing a proposed development near the Community Nature Center, expressing concerns about flooding, traffic congestion, and wildlife impact. A meeting at Oldtown Depot gathered residents, city officials, and Kirkland Properties, the developer, to discuss plans for reclassifying a 42-acre plot from residential to mixed-use for commercial development. Mayor Fischer noted that the zoning process may take at least six months. While developers aim to create a solution that includes preserved forest land alongside commercial properties, residents demand transparency and clarity on the project‘s implications for the community’s environment and infrastructure.
