Hurricane Helene aftermath: Devastation in North Carolina | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Days after Hurricane Helen ravaged the Southeast, communities remain in peril, many cut off from assistance. In Georgia and North Carolina, the destruction is termed “unthinkable,” with residents lacking water and cell service. Helen, a Category 4 hurricane, initially struck Florida’s Big Bend region, causing severe flooding and wind damage, particularly in Cedar Key, where homes were flattened. Recovery is expected to take years, prompting concerns of mass exodus. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is prioritizing community stabilization and damage assessment, while President Biden has declared disasters in Florida and North Carolina to facilitate FEMA aid.
North Carolina received the brunt of Helene with leaders calling the devastation “unthinkable” and many communities essentially cut off as they wait for help. FOX’s Madison Scarpino has the latest.

Abbott highlights border security, including busing foreign nationals to VPโs house | Texas
SUMMARY: At a recent Harris County GOP event, Texas Governor Greg Abbott highlighted the success of Operation Lone Star, which includes busing illegal migrants to the residences of Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democratic leaders. Abbott criticized the Biden-Harris administration for abandoning effective border policies established under Trump, leading to a record surge in illegal crossings, including dangerous criminals. He boasted of Texas’s border law enforcement efforts, such as building its own wall and deploying National Guardsmen. Since April 2022, Texas has bused nearly 120,000 migrants to various sanctuary cities, shifting the border crisis to a national issue demanding Trump’s return to office.

Is another hurricane coming after Helene? Tracking Tropical Storm Kirk
SUMMARY: The Atlantic remains active as we approach the end of September, with several weather events unfolding. Tropical Storm Kirk formed recently and is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane, but it poses no threat to the U.S. Meanwhile, a disorganized disturbance in the southwestern Caribbean is projected to move north, potentially developing into a storm in the Gulf this weekend. Although this system appears weaker than recent storms like Halen, its impacts could still be significant due to earlier landfalls. The next names on the hurricane list are Leslie and Milton, warranting close monitoring.
There is more activity in the tropics after Helene devastated the southeastern part of the U.S. FOX 4’s Dylan Federico takes a look at the expected path of Tropical Storm Kirk and other potential storms.

Federal judge strikes down part of 2021 Texas election law, AG Paxton to appeal | Texas
SUMMARY: A federal judge ruled that part of Texas‘s 2021 election integrity law violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments. Attorney General Ken Paxton plans to block the ruling, which is now with the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. The law aimed to regulate voting practices, including eliminating drive-through voting and increasing ID requirements for mail-in ballots. Critics, including several organizations, argued it suppressed voter turnout, especially among minorities. The judge’s decision halts enforcement of specific provisions, provoking responses from both Paxton and supporters of voting rights, highlighting the law’s controversial nature and ongoing legal battles.
