SUMMARY: Five hospitals in North Alabama, including Huntsville Hospital, may become out-of-network for United Healthcare insurance holders by year-end due to stalled negotiations. Patients using out-of-network providers may face higher costs, depending on their insurance plans. While similar disputes have occurred in the past, leading to temporary lapses in coverage, resolutions were typically reached. Currently, Huntsville Hospital physicians will remain in-network, and there will be no cost changes for retired teachers or state employees covered by United Healthcare. The hospital declined to comment further on the situation.

Before the end of the year, five North Alabama hospitals could become out of network for United Healthcare insurance holders.

SUMMARY: Travis Lofton, the sole witness for his defense, testified about the murder of Jason Mallette in Daphne, claiming he was driven by the belief that Mallette sexually assaulted his wife, Ariel Allen. Lofton learned this was untrue, based on text messages and medical records revealing the claims were fabricated. On June 29, 2023, Lofton arrived at a restaurant two hours before Mallette and confronted him, resulting in Lofton shooting Mallette in the shoulder. Lofton expressed deep remorse, stating discovering the truth about the alleged assault “hurt him to the soul,” and apologized to Mallette’s family present in court.

A jury is expected to begin deliberations Friday in the murder trial of Travis Lofton after tearful testimony and an apology to the family of Jason Mallette gunned down outside a Daphne restaurant last year.
