Humane Society of South Mississippi preparing for ‘massive influx’ of stray animals following Fou…
SUMMARY: The Humane Society of South Mississippi emphasizes the importance of planning for pets during July 4th fireworks, as this period sees a significant increase in runaway pets. The shelter experiences a massive influx of stray animals around this holiday due to pets being frightened by loud noises. Presently, the shelter is over capacity with 412 animals, nearly 300 of which are dogs. To mitigate this, they recommend updating ID collars and microchips. Additionally, they are offering a “5 Days of Freedom” adoption special with fee-waived adoptions to free up space. Pet owners should check their local shelter if their pet goes missing.
The Humane Society of South Mississippi already shelters all animals indoors. However, like most shelters, there is limited space.

SUMMARY: In Nashville, a woman expressed her fear in court that her abuser would kill her if released. Despite multiple violent incidents, he was released without informing her or placing a GPS monitor on him. Shortly after, he went missing, prompting the woman's father, Lance, to warn her. Lauren, the victim, stopped responding to messages, and her Life 360 tracker was turned off. Her body was later found brutally beaten in her car at a cemetery. Lance condemned the criminal justice system for its failures. The abuser, Rivers, has a criminal history and is currently in jail on a $1 million bond.
Thursday, Lauren Johansen's mutilated body was discovered in the back seat of her car in Harrison County.
