Hub City hosts 41st annual Memorial Day Service

SUMMARY: This morning, Hattiesburg held its 41st annual ceremony, organized by the Hattiesburg Committee. Veterans and Gold Star families gathered at Veterans Memorial Park to honor fallen soldiers from the Pine Belt. The ceremony emphasized the importance of remembering sacrifices made by community members, with 173 fallen soldiers’ names read aloud, each followed by a bell toll. Among the honored was Sergeant Anthony O’Neal McGee. His expressed their gratitude for the community’s recognition. The Hattiesburg Veterans Committee plans to return for a Veterans Day celebration in November.

Veterans and Golden Star families from across the Pine Belt gathered in Veterans Memorial Park in Hattiesburg for the ceremony.

Hurricane hunters order new planes

SUMMARY: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is set to replace its aging WP-3 Orion hurricane hunter aircraft with new C-130J aircraft. These modernized planes will feature advanced avionics, digital displays, and enhanced radar , allowing for a comprehensive three-dimensional view of tropical systems. The upgrades NOAA’s ongoing research efforts in hurricane monitoring. Adjustments will be made for the structural design differences between the P-3s and C-130s, finding new technology to replace certain radar systems. NOAA has ordered two C-130Js, with an option for four more, aiming to improve hurricane operations and studies, particularly in the Pacific.

Teen pleads in death of USM football player

Forrest County firefighters gathering Helene relief supplies through Monday
