How to dispose of e-waste
SUMMARY: The event at Renaissance at Colony Park this Friday invites the public to safely recycle old electronics, like vintage TVs from the late 60s and 70s. Electronic waste contains toxic materials such as lead and mercury, which can harm the environment. Improper disposal can also lead to data security breaches due to sensitive information stored in devices. Recycling helps recover rare earth elements, promoting a circular economy. While many items can be dropped off for free, some may incur nominal fees. The initiative addresses the increasing electronic waste, which is outpacing recycling efforts, with the U.S. producing nearly 7 million tons annually.
