SUMMARY: With the election just 12 days away, checking your voter registration status is crucial to avoid being deemed ineligible. Recent headlines about over a million voters being removed from the rolls may be alarming. However, these removals predominantly concern deceased individuals or those who have relocated. To verify your registration in Texas, visit the Secretary of State’s website and provide your Texas driver’s license number, name and date of birth, or your voter unique identifier. If mistakenly listed as inactive, you can still vote by completing a statement of residence at the polls. For further voting info, text “vote” to 713 526 1111.

Election Day is 12 days away and the last thing you want after waiting in line is to find out you are ineligible to vote.

SUMMARY: Zebra mussels, an invasive species, are thriving in Texas lakes, including Lake Georgetown. While eradicating them from large lakes is difficult, Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District has successfully removed them using a system that dissolves copper via electrical charge. This copper, toxic to zebra mussels, coats pipes and prevents the mussels from attaching. Texas Parks and Wildlife notes that chemical treatments are costly and typically ineffective in large lakes. The successful eradication of zebra mussels from Lake Waco in 2021 was due to early detection and smothering. The copper system used by Brushy Creek poses no risk to humans.
