SUMMARY: Social media and the constant news cycle can have a negative impact on mental and emotional health, especially for children and teenagers. Exposure to dangerous images and stories of mass violence and terrorism can increase anxiety in children. The conflicts in the Middle East are affecting both adults and children in the US. It is crucial for parents to check in with their kids and understand what they are seeing and doing on social media. Setting parental controls is important for younger children. It is recommended for everyone to take breaks from social media and engage in other activities such as going for a walk or reading.
