SUMMARY: Residents in northwest Houston united to demand justice for Heather Smith, a mother killed in her home in August. Christopher Brazil, a neighbor charged with her murder, has a history of alarming incidents, including a prior arrest for deadly conduct. A judge has set his bond at $5 million after a petition with 532 signatures from concerned neighbors highlighted fears of his release. Heather’s family supports the bond amount, and if Brazil posts bail, he is prohibited from returning to the neighborhood and must wear an ankle monitor. The community continues to advocate for safety and justice.

Data challenges make it tough to see full scope of educator injury issues in Bexar County

www.youtube.com – KSAT 12 – 2025-02-25 22:19:51

SUMMARY: Educators are facing severe violence from students, contributing to a teacher shortage. Incidents include physical assaults, resulting in injuries to teachers, like Fred Jimenez, who died after an altercation last year. Reports indicate over 4,000 injuries among Bear County educators in two years, likely underreported due to insufficient data collection by local school districts. Many districts lack long-term records of assaults, raising concerns about their awareness of increasing violence. The Texas Education Agency does not track teacher injuries. Educators call for more resources and support to address the issue and improve student environments while sharing their experiences.

SUMMARY: A Southwest Airlines flight from Omaha to Chicago Midway had a near-miss incident when it had to abort its landing due to an unauthorized Flexjet business jet entering the runway. Video captured the Southwest flight attempting to land just feet above the runway, forcing pilots to make a quick decision to go around. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Retired American Airlines pilot Chris Mano praised the Southwest pilots for their swift judgment while questioning the corporate jet pilots for lacking situational awareness. The NTSB is investigating, especially following several recent plane crashes. Passengers felt the incident was minor due to effective communication from the pilots.
