Controversial education bill hits Texas House — What parents should know
SUMMARY: A controversial education bill is making its way through the Texas House, with ongoing debates over school vouchers. Governor Abbott supports the vouchers, arguing they give parents control over their children’s education. However, critics, including educators and the Texas State Teachers Association, oppose House Bill 2, which introduces the voucher program, arguing it would divert funds from public schools. Meanwhile, House Bill 3 proposes a school choice program with $1 billion allocated to education savings accounts for qualifying families, prioritizing low-income students and those with disabilities. The debate continues as a public hearing is scheduled today at 8 a.m.

The Texas Legislature is set to continue discussions on school vouchers today as the House considers two key bills that could reshape public education in the state.
