Houston CTE building is expanding for welding program
SUMMARY: The city of Houston is set to enhance its welding program at the Houston Career and Technology Center following a $900,000 grant from Governor Tate Reeves. Launched in 2023, the program has quickly grown to include three full daytime classes and night sessions every six weeks. Initially located in a storage area, the expansion will provide students with a larger facility to better develop their skills and passions. The program not only prepares students for the workforce but also fosters a love for welding, enabling them to create various projects, thus significantly impacting the community.

SUMMARY: A forest fire in Rankin County, sparked by a resident’s controlled burn, has been contained but not fully extinguished. The fire, affecting over 300 acres, began around 11 a.m. and prompted evacuations of nearby homes as it spread eastward toward Scott County. Approximately 15 volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze, utilizing various firefighting equipment to contain it. Although no structures were damaged, the situation remained serious, with smoke visible in the area. Residents are urged to stay informed as crews continue their efforts to fully extinguish the fire. Black History Month: Chickasaw County native redefining the cowboy image in Hollywood

A Rodeo Champion and skilled stuntman, Cook recalls his early love for rodeo, which led him to impressive stunts in major films, including “The Harder They Fall.” As he showcases the talents of black cowboys, he emphasizes their significant but often overlooked contributions to the American West, where an estimated one in four cowboys were black in the 1800s. Cook sees his work as a way to honor this history and inspire the next generation of black rodeo performers.
Tim Cook is a former bareback and bull rider from Houston, Mississippi. He talked to WTVA’s Michelle Martin about bringing his life as a cowboy to the big screen.
SUMMARY: A significant software glitch is disrupting Mississippi’s driver license bureaus, with operations expected to resume by the week’s end. The Department of Public Safety revealed that a routine update from a third-party vendor caused the issues, resulting in 2 to 3-hour wait times at various offices. Currently, only limited services, such as gun permits and ID cards, are being offered. Commissioner Tindle addressed accountability and future contracts with the vendor to prevent recurrence. He urged the public to remain patient as staff work diligently to resolve the chaos caused by the tech failure.
