SUMMARY: Libby Hankins lived with Cystic Fibrosis her whole life, facing challenges and medical treatments. Despite this, she lived a normal life, being a cheerleader, homecoming queen, and college student. She eventually received a lung transplant but passed away after complications. Her legacy lives on through the “Live-Like-Libby, Love-Like-Libby Foundation” that focuses on special needs children, animal rescues, and organ donation awareness. The community honors her with “17 Acts of Kindness Week” leading up to her transplant anniversary. Libby’s family continues her legacy, inspired by her selfless decision to donate her organs and make a positive impact.

MSU hosts ceremony after new renovations on Sanderson Center

SUMMARY: Mississippi State University recently celebrated the completion of a $2.5 million renovation of the Joe Frank Sanderson Center, enhancing its fitness facilities. The upgrades include modern fitness equipment, an open-concept space replacing former racquetball courts, an interactive climbing wall, and improved flooring. The renovated center now boasts approximately 19,000 to 20,000 square feet of fitness space, nearly doubling the original area. In 2022, students approved a fee increase to fund these enhancements, which aim to provide more opportunities for health and fitness within the student community. This is the first significant renovation since the center opened in 1998.

Canton man convicted in shooting death of wife

SUMMARY: Myles Flint Johnson, a 53-year-old from Canton, was convicted of second-degree murder for the shooting death of his wife, Kristi Johnson, after a three-day trial in Madison County Circuit Court. On January 30, 2024, Johnson called 911 claiming his wife had shot herself, but investigators found she had been shot in the back two days prior.
