Home-and-home football matchups between Ole Miss and USC canceled
SUMMARY: Ole Miss and USC will not proceed with their scheduled home-and-home football matchups, as confirmed by Ole Miss Athletics Director Keith Carter. Initially, Ole Miss was to travel to Los Angeles in 2025, and USC to Oxford in 2026. The scheduling halt is due to the dynamic landscape of college football and the SEC's potential future model of nine conference opponents. Additionally, the expansion of the College Football Playoff to 12 teams has influenced teams like Ole Miss to avoid tough non-conference games. Ole Miss will still face The Citadel, Wake Forest, and Tulane next year, with future games uncertain.

Outdoors expert hopeful new wildlife commissioners will be both qualified and educated
SUMMARY: Republican Gov. Tate Reeves is tasked with appointing two new members to the Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks following the Senate's decision not to reconfirm Leonard Bentz, Jr. due to an illegal hunting scandal, and the term conclusion of chairman Bill Cossar. Lake Pickle, a videographer with onX Hunt, emphasizes the public's heightened interest in the appointments, urging Reeves to prioritize qualifications over friendships. As chronic wasting disease (CWD) impacts the state's white-tailed deer, there's a call for scientifically educated commissioners. Despite failed legislation to expand the commission, optimism remains high for positive changes.

At Lake Washington, the limit is 20 fish per angler with an 11-inch minimum length. At the flood control reservoirs, the limit is 10 fish per angler and 25 per boat for three or more anglers, with a 12-inch minimum length. Fish must be cleaned at designated stations. New legislation pushes Mississippi runoff elections back one week
SUMMARY: New Mississippi legislation, effective January 1, 2025, will extend the runoff election period from three to four weeks post-Election Day. The bill, SB 2144, passed with overwhelming support (118-1 in the House and 50-1 in the Senate), allowing more preparation time for election officials and voters. Senator Jeremy England, chairman of the Elections Committee, stated this extension will enable better-informed voter decisions through candidate debates. Additionally, a ban on ranked-choice voting will take effect on July 1. Despite concerns about potential impacts on voter turnout and campaign costs, England considers these changes beneficial for a cleaner election process.
