Holiday Cooking Safety Tips
SUMMARY: Thanksgiving turkey frying safety tips include cooking outdoors, away from structures and flammable materials, with at least 10 feet of clearance. It’s essential to thaw the turkey before frying and to have two people involved for added safety. Always keep a fire extinguisher nearby in case of accidents, as oil overflow or dropping a frozen turkey into hot oil can lead to dangerous fires. Following manufacturer guidelines is crucial, and knowing how to properly use a fire extinguisher can help prevent serious damage. Frying turkeys safely minimizes risks and ensures a successful holiday meal.
Florissant Valley Fire Protection District’s Kate Freshman joins the morning show to provide tips on how to stay safe while cooking during the holidays.

SSM Health Medical Minute: Unique stroke risks in women
SUMMARY: Strokes are the third leading cause of death in women, with one in five women at risk. While often seen as a men’s health issue, women face higher stroke mortality due to longer life expectancy and specific risk factors, such as migraines, hormonal changes, and menopause, especially with hormone replacement therapy. Pregnancy-related strokes, though rare, can be severe if not detected early. Early symptoms include severe headaches and vision changes. However, up to 80% of strokes are preventable by managing high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, sleep apnea, and obesity.
Stroke is often considered a men’s health issue, but the reality is it’s the third leading cause of death in women. One in five women will experience a stroke in their lifetime, and understanding the risks and warning signs can save lives.

Attorneys discuss what's next after men charged in deadly kidnapping of Michelle Hampton
SUMMARY: Federal prosecutors have disclosed details about the case against Anan Mosby and Emanuel Suarez, charged with the kidnapping and murder of Michelle Hampton. Mosby, the boyfriend of Hampton’s twin sister, faces charges of kidnapping resulting in death, which carries a potential life sentence or death penalty. Suarez, charged as a felon in possession of a firearm, faces up to 15 years. Prosecutors emphasize the community’s concerns and the case’s complexity, involving multiple ATMs and a stolen vehicle. Both suspects have pleaded not guilty, with hearings scheduled for December. The tragic case continues to shock the community.
“The fact that we have twin sisters and boyfriends, I don’t know how to describe it. It’s just horribly unfortunate,” said John Davis, attorney for Kessler Williams Law Firm.
Even after nearly 25 years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the case has shocked Davis and many in the community.
