Hochul moves ahead with overhaul of home care program | New York
SUMMARY: New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that Partnerships LLC, a Georgia-based firm, will manage the state‘s $9 billion home care industry, specifically the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), starting in 2025. The decision, part of the state’s $223 billion fiscal year 2025 budget, aims to enhance oversight, reduce fraud, and save taxpayer money. However, it has faced criticism from various stakeholders, including home care organizations and lawmakers, who warn it could harm patient care and jobs. Supporters argue it will streamline operations and improve services for approximately 250,000 elderly and disabled New Yorkers reliant on the program.

Hearing held in case challenging new election rules | Georgia
SUMMARY: Plaintiffs, including the Democratic Party of Georgia, are seeking clarification on new rules enacted by the Georgia State Board of Elections ahead of the Nov. 5 general election. A judge is reviewing these rules, which permit local election boards to conduct a “reasonable inquiry” before certifying elections and scrutinize documents for inconsistencies. The plaintiffs argue these requirements could create uncertainty and chaos in the post-election process. Additionally, the Georgia NAACP opposes a new rule mandating daily hand counts of ballots, claiming it increases the risk of error and could lead to voter disenfranchisement, especially so close to the election.
