History of Lucedale’s Annual Christmas Parade
SUMMARY: The Lucedale Christmas Parade, a much-anticipated annual event, has been delighting the community since 1955, with Santa Claus as the centerpiece. The first parade featured 14 themed floats, including ones inspired by Mother Goose characters, sponsored by local clubs and organizations. Originally, in 1950, Santa would arrive escorted by the sheriff and high school band. The parade has evolved, with the Jaycees and later the Rotary Club taking over as sponsors, and the addition of a Grand Marshal started in 1990. The parade now boasts over 70 entries and is considered one of South Mississippi’s best, with this year’s Grand Marshals being the state champion high school girls’ softball team.

Boater Safety is a Must!
SUMMARY: Spring is here in Mississippi, prompting many to venture out on the state’s waterways. Before heading out, it’s crucial to review boater safety skills. Those born after June 30, 1980, must complete a state-accredited boater safety course, which covers vital topics like water safety and navigation rules. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) offers the course online or in person, with various locations available year-round. Successful completion may also help reduce insurance premiums. For more information, contact MDWFP or check their website. Enjoy the beautiful weather, but prioritize safety on the water!

Mississippi is Wearin’ the Green
SUMMARY: St. Patrick’s Day, celebrated on March 17, honors the missionary who introduced Christianity to Ireland. This festive day, where everything turns green, was brought to America by Irish immigrants. Boston held the first official observance in 1737, while St. Augustine claimed the earliest celebration in 1600. In Mississippi, St. Patrick’s festivities kick off in Biloxi with a parade and family-friendly festival on March 15, 2025, followed by Jackson’s Hal’s St. Paddy’s Parade on March 22. Celebrations span the state, inviting everyone to wear green and partake in the fun, avoiding leprechaun pinches along the way.
