Historic marker to be unveiled for Monroe County school
SUMMARY: A historic marker has been erected in Monroe County to commemorate the Hickerson Rosenwald School, which educated black students from 1927 to 1960. This initiative is a collaboration between the Monroe County Rosenwald Schools Partnership, Prairie Rural Community Development Club, Amry Regional Museum, and the Monroe County Historical Society. The marker honors the legacy of those who attended the school and highlights the broader impact of Rosenwald schools, which expanded from six original schools to about 5,000 nationwide, significantly benefiting African American education. The unveiling will take place Saturday at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Mississippi bill would end DEI ideology in state’s higher education | Mississippi
SUMMARY: Mississippi state Sen. Angela Burks Hill has proposed Senate Bill 2223, aimed at eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the state’s higher education system. The bill would prohibit public institutions from using funds to support DEI offices or personnel and ban diversity training and preferential treatment based on race, sex, or ethnicity. Additionally, schools must report compliance and reallocate funds previously designated for DEI towards merit scholarships and tuition. The bill is under consideration by the Mississippi Senate Universities and Colleges Committee. Another bill, 2515, is also being reviewed, focusing on the efficiency of the public university system.
