Hinds County polling location experiences issue
SUMMARY: During the 2023 Primary Election in Hinds County, Mississippi, there was a problem with the voting machines at Christ United Methodist Church polling location. Voters had to place their ballots in red or blue bags because the machines were not working. Some voters expressed annoyance and concern, but election officials were able to provide a key to scan the ballots at the polling location. Despite the issues, voters still emphasized the importance of voting as a means of creating change.

SUMMARY: Von’s Soul Food Catering in Columbus, Mississippi, provides over 400 meals to those in need at Loaves and Fishes every third Tuesday. Since 2018, owner Lavonne Harris has prepared full-course meals for the homeless and hungry. On November 19, a Thanksgiving-themed meal was served, including dressing, vegetables, and dessert. The meals are a special way to support people before the holiday. Volunteers from the community and local businesses assist in serving the meals. Harris also encourages more volunteers and churches to help, as there are days when additional support is needed to serve meals.
