Hinds Community College awarded $2.25M to promote diversity in STEM fields

SUMMARY: Hinds Community College-Utica has received a $2.25 million grant from the National Science Foundation for a project aimed at promoting diversity in STEM fields. The project will address the lack of diversity in STEM by increasing students’ completion of degrees in STEM and supporting their transitions from K-12 to four-year institutions. It will also provide career enhancements for faculty and staff to support the implementation of STEM and Career Technical pathways. This project is particularly significant in its focus on developing persistence and higher degree attainment for HBCU students entering a community college.

Bricen Rivers pleads not guilty to murder of ex-girlfriend Lauren Johansen

SUMMARY: Bricen Rivers has pleaded not guilty to capital murder, vehicle theft, and tampering with evidence related to the death of his ex-girlfriend, Lauren Johansen, whose body was found in a car trunk in Mississippi.
