Here are the Mississippi laws that take effect July 1
SUMMARY: Starting from July 1, 2023, several new laws will be implemented in Mississippi. These laws include increased support for mothers of newborns, stricter voting restrictions, the designation of a state fruit, and punishments for stealing pecans. However, one of the laws that expands the role of the state-run Capitol Police and creates a new court is being challenged in federal court. Supporters argue that these measures aim to improve public safety, while opponents claim it takes local control away from Jackson, which is majority-Black. Other laws set to take effect include age verification for accessing explicit content, allowing 18-year-olds to enter into legally binding contracts involving real property, and postpartum coverage extension under Medicaid. Additionally, laws relating to election runoffs, electric car sales, blueberries as the state fruit, a vulnerable person abuse registry, electronic liens and titles, fentanyl testing, ballot harvesting, and school safety programs will also be implemented.

SUMMARY: A Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis to Toronto flipped over while landing at Pearson Airport on February 17, 2025.
