SUMMARY: The Mississippi National Guard has suspended all outside training programs due to the severe heat, following the death of one Guardsman and the hospitalization of another. The extreme temperatures, soaring past 100 degrees, have led to heat-related injuries for servicemen and women. In addition to the heat, the state is experiencing a drought, leading to an increased risk of wildfires. Firefighters are struggling to contain the fires, as the dry vegetation and strong winds contribute to their spread. More than 15 counties have implemented burn bans as a precautionary measure. There is no relief in sight for these conditions.
