Heat being blamed for crack in Booneville road

Meteorologist Chelsea Simmons explained that recent fluctuations between high daytime and cool morning temperatures contribute to road wear. A Boonville resident highlighted the unbearable outdoor working conditions due to the heat and humidity. Chelsea noted that rain doesn't help, as it can erode the soil beneath cracked roads. Drivers are advised to avoid road buckles safely. The road has since been repaired.

SUMMARY: A Hattiesburg man, Tobias Smith, 27, is in custody for a bomb threat sent via text to a Smith County business, leading to the evacuation of employees at Georgia Pacific Plywood near Taylorville. The Highway Patrol used bomb dogs to search the site before employees could return. Smith faces one count of terrorist threats and is currently held at Smith County Jail, awaiting his bond hearing.

SUMMARY: A house fire occurred near Baxterville in Lamar County amidst thunderstorms in the Pine Belt area. Officials do not suspect foul play and believe a lightning strike may have caused the fire.
