Election Day is almost here. What to know before voting in Mississippi’s municipal primary runoffs

SUMMARY: On April 22, nearly 30 municipalities in Mississippi will hold primary runoff elections, covering positions from mayor to city council. Secretary of State Michael Watson emphasizes the importance of local elections and encourages voters to research candidates. Voters can participate if registered and must stick to their initial party choice if they voted in the primaries. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; individuals in line at 7 p.m. can vote. Voters need a photo ID, and legal restrictions prevent campaign materials near polling locations. Absentee voting deadlines have passed, but mail-in ballots are still accepted if postmarked by election day.
