Hattiesburg water meter project
SUMMARY: Folks in Hattiesburg will soon have their water meters upgraded to a new system after more than a decade with the current system. Mayor Toby Barker explains that the new meters will help city workers, neighbors, and business owners by cutting down the need for manual reads. The current system, installed in 2009, is causing issues with dials, endpoints, and batteries. City leaders are working on implementing the new system but were delayed due to post-COVID supply chain issues. Anyone in Hattiesburg experiencing issues with their current meters can contact the Water Department or the Mayor’s office to schedule a meter check.

The current system was installed in 2009, allowing workers to drive around the city with a laptop to check the meters.
