Hattiesburg sisters honored with civil rights marker

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Humanities Council has honored pioneers Dory and Joyce Ladner from Hattiesburg with a new Trail marker. The unveiling ceremony took place at the site of the former Woods Guest House, which served as a headquarters for civil rights activities. The Ladner sisters played crucial roles in organizing the 1963 March on Washington and the 1964 Freedom Summer. Joyce Ladner attended the ceremony, while Dory Ladner, who passed away three months ago, was also remembered. This marker is the 37th in the , with another to be unveiled in Laurel honoring Dr. Benjamin Murf, and the first outside Mississippi to be dedicated in Atlantic .
