Natchez Trace Parkways helps those affected by Helene
SUMMARY: Hurricane Helen has caused over 200 deaths, prompting emergency assistance along the Florida Gulf Coast and Carolinas. The National Guard from Mississippi and Alabama is aiding recovery efforts, alongside staff from the Natchez Trace Parkway. Two firefighters and other personnel have been deployed to assist in clearing debris along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. Challenges include limited access due to downed cell towers and power outages. Teams from the National Park Service are assessing damage and requesting additional resources as needed. Parkway Superintendent Douglas Neighbors noted that employee deployments typically last two weeks, but the duration remains uncertain.
