Hattiesburg holds 41st annual Memorial Day ceremony

SUMMARY: Today, Hattiesburg and the veterans committee held the 41st annual Memorial Day ceremony, honoring fallen service members from World War I through Operation Iraqi Freedom. The names of 173 fallen Forest County service members were read at Hattiesburg Veterans Memorial Park, accompanied by a bell, bagpipes, and Taps. Wreaths of Honor represented each branch of the armed services and the POWs. The event emphasized remembering the sacrifices of young service members. Mayor Toby Barker announced a proposal for the city council to name the terminal at Bobby Chain Airport after Jesse L. Brown, the first African-American to earn U.S. Navy wings.

Tupelo waiting on Target to make decision on new store

Volunteers requested for local “Grow-a-Row” program to combat hunger
