Hattiesburg felon to spend over 2 years behind bars for possessing firearm, evading police
SUMMARY: Jamarquis Vasean Tate, a 25-year-old man from Hattiesburg, has been sentenced to over two years in prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Tate was found to be in possession of a firearm by the Hattiesburg Police Department after a reported disturbance at a local hotel. He fled from officers but was soon apprehended, during which he threw the firearm away. Tate was indicted by a federal grand jury and pleaded guilty to the charge. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and prosecuted as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Program.
