Harris County-Houston Sports Authority's longtime leader ousted
SUMMARY: The Harris County Houston Sports Authority board has voted to remove longtime CEO Janice Burke, following calls for new leadership from Mayor Whit Meer and other city officials. This decision comes as concerns grow about the Sports Authority’s collaboration with the city and its readiness for major upcoming events, including the World Cup. Mayor Meer emphasized the need for improvement, stating that the organization has strayed from its core mission of supporting Houston’s sports facilities. While the board will appoint an interim CEO, Burke expressed pride in her 18-year tenure, during which she helped attract significant events like the Super Bowl.
Janis Burke was voted out just hours after Houston city leaders said the group needed new leadership.

Brad Simpson faces hold for questioning by federal authorities
SUMMARY: Federal investigators are reportedly looking into Brad Simpson, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and U.S. Marshals placing a hold on him. This means that if he posts bond for county charges, he could still be taken into federal custody. Currently, there are no pending federal charges against Simpson, who is being held at Bear County Jail on $2 million in bonds. A bond hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday morning. The ATF investigates federal crimes, including the unlawful use or theft of firearms.
Federal authorities on Friday placed a hold on the husband of an Olmos Park woman missing since early this week, adding another obstacle to Brad Simpson possibly being released from jail.
