Happening June 14-15: Juneteenth in Biloxi
SUMMARY: This weekend, BXY will celebrate Juneteenth with various events across the coast. Joining us are Councilmember Felix G and Trey Brown from the Movers and Shakers Club to discuss the festivities. The celebration kicks off Friday night with an old-school Spades contest and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at John Henry Beck Park, featuring cash prizes. Saturday includes a Unity walk/run and culminates with activities, vendors, and live entertainment by Rashad the Blues Kid and One Accord. The city of BUUY, with Sherry Bell from Parks and Recreation, plays a significant role in organizing. Movers and Shakers have partnered for three years, enhancing the magnitude of the celebration.

Safe Haven Center for Domestic Violence holds 3rd annual Pumps, Brunch & Bourbon fundraiser
SUMMARY: The Safe Haven Center for Domestic Violence, founded by a survivor of domestic violence, hosts an annual event called “Pumps, Brunch, and Bourbon” to raise funds for victims. With alarming statistics showing that nearly 20 people per minute are abused by an intimate partner in the U.S., the center aims to provide necessary support, especially in Mississippi, where 39.7% of women and 31.7% of men have experienced abuse. The executive director, Annie Sanders, herself a survivor, emphasizes the importance of providing services to those in need. Despite limited funding, the center has helped nearly 200 families since its incorporation.
On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States.

Bay St. Louis church hosts Barbecue & Blues Festival
SUMMARY: The Fall Farmers Market returns to Locale in October. Day two of the 98th Annual Barbecue and Blues Festival is in full swing at St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church, with music filling the streets of Bay St. Louis. The event features entertainment for all ages, including a pottery wheel and children's games. The church's members say their famous ribs steal the show. The festival runs until 9 PM with activities and Gospel Choir performances. Organizers are already planning for next year and the church's centennial in 2026.
Saturday saw Day 2 of the 98th annual Barbecue & Blues Festival underway at the St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church.
