Hall, Storm, Dickerson, Etzel part of record MLB Draft Day for Southern Miss

SUMMARY: Southern Miss baseball team is at a peak with a new record of four players being drafted in the first ten rounds of the MLB first-year player draft. The players are Tanner Hall (Minnesota Twins), Justin Storm (Miami Marlins), Dustin Dickerson (Kansas City Royals), and Matthew Etzel (Baltimore Orioles). The team has continuously had players selected in the first four rounds since 2017, with Hall being this year’s selection. Additionally, Hall became USM’s first-ever Gold Glove winner while being named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year. Southern Miss is now tied with Ole Miss for the tenth-most players selected during the draft’s first two days.

SUMMARY: Mary Evelyn Jakubik, a junior at St. Patrick, helped her tennis team win their first-ever State Championship on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. After rediscovering her passion for tennis during the COVID years, Jakubik’s dedication paid off as she was selected for the prestigious Ozaki Cup and won numerous tournaments, including a mixed doubles State title as a freshman. The day after the team victory, she clinched the girls’ singles State Championship by overcoming a tough first set. Jakubik, a three-time State Champion, is now aiming to win a girls doubles title with her sister, Campbell, next year.
