Gulfport’s Izzi Barnes, OLA’s Myah Favre named C Spire Miss Volleyball winners
SUMMARY: Happy Wednesday! The MHSAA has announced the second-ever Miss Volleyball Awards, recognizing Gulfport‘s Izzy Barnes and Our Lady Academy’s Maya Favre as the 7A and 3A winners, respectively. Barnes achieved 399 kills, 54 aces, 157 blocks, and 52 digs, while Favre recorded nearly 500 kills, 177 aces, 57 blocks, and 165 digs this season. Both teams advanced to the playoffs, and the players express pride in their hard work, emphasizing their commitment to their teams and desire to make history. They will be honored during the MHSAA state championships at Mississippi College on October 17th and 18th.
Barnes and Favre will be recognized during the MHSAA State Championships, hosted in Clinton at Mississippi College.

Mississippi Gulf Coast first responders providing aid to Florida
SUMMARY: This morning, First Responders from the Gulf Coast are aiding Florida following recent disasters, with dozens of firefighters from the Gulfport Fire Department, as well as Jackson and Harrison County Fire Rescues, participating in the effort. Many of these firefighters are veterans of past hurricanes like Camille and Katrina, allowing them to empathize with the challenges faced by Floridians. Their presence provides hope to affected communities. The group is expected to remain in Florida for about two weeks, joined by 22 members of the Mississippi National Guard, who will conduct search and rescue operations and distribute essential supplies.
Thursday morning, first responders from the Coast are answering the call for help. Dozens of firefighters are in Florida aiding with the aftermath.
