Gulfport fire station to relocate to temporary shelter following fire
SUMMARY: Three weeks after Gulfport‘s Fire Station 2 on 42nd Avenue caught fire, officials are working with insurance to plan the next steps for recovery. Chief Billy Kelly explained that the fire ignited while workers were grinding metal. Due to the damage, firefighters have relocated to a temporary shelter. This move will not affect response times; during the day, they patrol the area, and at night, they stay at the nearby station. Station 2 is one of the busiest stations, covering from their current location to the Long Beach line and the CB base. The temporary shelter is expected to be operational by Wednesday.
Chief Kelley says the temporary shelter is set to be up and running by Wednesday.
