SUMMARY: Travis Allen, administrator of the Gulf Coast Secret Fishing Report Facebook page, organized an event to distribute free fishing gear, including poles, nets, and tackle boxes, to the community. Allen aims to encourage people, particularly kids, to take up fishing, highlighting its benefits as a fun, relaxing, and peaceful activity. He shared that fishing helped keep him out of trouble growing up, and he hopes it can have the same positive impact on others. This event, which saw over 120 fishing poles distributed, marks the third time his group has provided such support to the community.

One man is giving back to the community — one fishing pole at a time.

Flying this summer? You’ll need a REAL ID starting in May

SUMMARY: Starting May 7, 2025, travelers will need a Real ID or passport to fly domestically. This mandate, aligned with post-9/11 security reforms, aims to enhance safety by standardizing identification. Kim Jackson, TSA’s Federal Security Director in Mississippi, emphasizes the importance of this requirement due to previous misuse of various IDs by hijackers. Currently, 97% of Mississippians are Real ID compliant. To obtain a Real ID, individuals must provide a social security card, birth certificate copy, and two proofs of residency at their local DMV. Early compliance is encouraged to avoid last-minute complications.

The mandate comes 20 years after the REAL ID Act was passed in 2005 in response to the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation.
