Groups calls for Mississippi lawmakers to close healthcare coverage gap
SUMMARY: Care4MS is urging Mississippi lawmakers to pass legislation to close the healthcare coverage gap for over 200,000 Mississippians. Many people, like Lakeisha Preston, are caught in this gap where they can’t afford private health insurance but make too much for Medicaid. Preston ended up in debt after a hospitalization because she couldn’t afford her employer’s health insurance. There are currently eight bills in the Legislative Session to expand Medicaid and close the coverage gap. However, if one of these bills reaches the governor, Tate Reeves, he is unlikely to sign it due to his negative stance on Obamacare.
