Group looks to renovate abandoned dorms in West Point

SUMMARY: The Dream Center Golden Triangle plans to renovate the abandoned Kenneth G Nay dormitory in West Point, formerly part of Mary Holmes Community College, which has sat unused for nearly two decades. The National Trust for Historic Preservation is funding a $150,000 feasibility study to assess the building’s potential for revival amid concerns over mold and rodent infestation. This renovation could address the housing shortage in the Golden Triangle, where around 700 families are seeking homes. If deemed feasible, renovations may not begin until 2027, with hopes for the dormitory to eventually provide living spaces for 90 families.

Germantown Mavericks triumphed over Canton High 31-6, and Ridgeland Titans beat Florence Eagles 24-3. Canton Academy celebrated a 41-8 win against West Memphis Christian, and Hartfield Academy dominated Cathedral 49-0. The show’s standout player was Madison St. Joe’s Drew Wamble.

This recognition is awarded to individuals with 25 or more years of service in the industry and notable achievements. Wreckage cleared from Vicksburg train derailment site

SUMMARY: Vicksburg fire officials report that all rail cars from the Thursday derailment at Malberry and Oak streets have been cleared, and rail traffic has resumed. A 50-year-old man sustained serious injuries during the incident and was transported to University Medical Center in Jackson. Investigators are currently looking into the cause of the derailment and are also trying to understand the circumstances surrounding the victim’s presence near the tracks at the time.
